Chesapeake Farmland Commons

Keeping Farmland Active

Since 2024, Backyard Basecamp has been collaborating with The Farmers Land Trust to

support landowners in achieving their generational stewardship goals, meet their estate planning needs, and realize their land legacy, to then secure equitable, long-term land tenure for farmers and growers using sustainable practices to grow food for their communities.

With the coordination of multiple partners, we are creating a 501(c)(25) to establish the Chesapeake Farmland Commons to own land and other farm real estate for regenerative agriculture in perpetuity, ensuring that farmland in Maryland remains dedicated to active food production for generations to come.
